Imagine you live in ancient Israel. You’ve just sinned against God. You know that the punishment for your sin is death. Is there a way your life can be spared? Yes.You take a spotless lamb from your flock to the Tabernacle. A priest meets you at the door. While you put your hands on the lamb’s fluffy little head, the priest kills it and takes its blood to sprinkle on the altar. You watch as the priest cuts up the lamb and burns it on the altar. As the smoke goes up toward Heaven, you sigh with relief. God has accepted your offering. You will not have to die for your sin.

The idea of sacrifices and burnt offerings are strange to us in our modern times. Did you know they were the only way to have your sins forgiven before Christ died? And did you know that sacrifices didn’t start when Israel was in the wilderness with the Tabernacle?

This five-lesson study explores sacrifices in the Bible. It looks at the first and the last sacrifice God required. It explains why sacrifices were needed and why we don’t need them anymore. Most importantly, it shows how each sacrifice pointed to the greatest Sacrifice—the Lord Jesus Christ.

This study consists of 5 lessons, which are each broken down into 5 to 7 parts. If this study is done on a daily basis in a devotional or homeschool setting, it will take approximately a month to complete. Because of the length of this study and the difficulty of the passages studied, we recommend this study for students in grades 5 and above. Parents or teachers, however, should decide whether their student/child will be able to complete this study. As always, parents and teachers should be prepared to give assistance wherever needed.
